Alberta School Council Assc. AGM 2021
(April 25)

YOUR VOTE MATTERS! Call to Action to defend Public Education!

ASCA Annual General Meeting 2021 (Sunday, April 25, 2021)

Q:      What does Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) do?
A:      ASCA represents parents on School Councils to engage with Alberta’s Education Ministry.

Q:    Why is the AGM important?
A:    Resolutions passed at the AGM become ASCA’s policy and inform ASCA’s advocacy efforts.

How to participate in the Alberta School Councils' Association (ASCA) AGM on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

  1. Is your School Council a member of ASCA?
  • Yes? (you need to renew your membership each school year) - Great! See #2
  • No? Please have your Chairperson sign up to become one: https://www.albertaschoolcouncils.ca/about/membership
  • If your school does NOT have a School Council consider becoming an individual member: https://www.albertaschoolcouncils.ca/about/membership
     2. Discuss the ASCA AGM package and determine how your School Council will vote for each of the proposed resolutions. We have compiled a
Voting Guide as a quick reference for SOS's positions. Board positions will also be voted on at the AGM.

    3. Decide how your school council vote will be represented at the AGM:
  • In person with a parent from your School Council to attend and vote on your behalf. (Each ASCA School Council Member carries 1 vote at the AGM and each can send 1 parent for FREE, additional parents are $25/each).  Each School Council attending can hold 9 votes by Proxy in addition to their own. Registration
  • Via Proxy. Designate a parent representing another ASCA Member School Council who is already attending the AGM to carry your School Council’s vote. Fill out the Proxy Voting Form  Meeting Documents. ASCA can help connect you with a School Council that is attending.

Q:    Where can I find the resolutions:
A:    Refer to our Resolutions Voting Guide for all the relevant information.

Q:  What if I would like to run for an ASCA Board position?
A:
EXCELLENT! It's imperative that PUBLIC education supporters have a seat at the table. Do not let private education lobbyists steal your seat. Consider a Board position on ASCA to protect public education. Nomination deadline at 5pm April 10, 2021. Detailed Board election info here.
